Homemade Mason Jar Ice Cream


This Homemade Mason jar ice cream is a simple and delicious treat that you can make at home in three simple steps and very few ingredients. The variations available are up to your imagination. With Extracts coming in a multitude of flavours like coconut, rum and butter, peppermint and others combined with the ability to add fresh or frozen fruit allows you to really change up the flavour.
The exact origins of ice cream is not entirely clear. Believed to originated somewhere in China around 200 B.C. Over time the recipe is believed to have spread to other places on the globe. Some historians believe Marco Polo introduced Italy to ice cream during the 13th century. By the 18th century ice cream had reached America and quickly became a favourite treat.
If you have a mason jar, you can make this ice cream. Mason jars are designed for extreme temperatures making them a safe option for freezing. As another note, always leave enough head space for the freezing process. Not leaving enough space will result in the jar cracking and risking glass in your ice cream. Do not eat the ice cream if your jar cracks. Glass shards could go unseen and eaten.
Homemade Mason Jar Ice Cream Recipe
- 1 Cup Heavy Cream
- 1 1/2 TBSP Brown / Cane Sugar
- 1 1/2 Tsp Vanilla or other extract (coconut etc)
- pinch of salt
- Pureed fruit *optional*
3 Step Instructions
- Step 1- Clean and Sterilize your jar and lid.
- Step 2- Pour in the heavy cream and vanilla. Then Sprinkle in salt and sugar.
- Step 2b- Puree fruit or other flavored extract as substitute for vanilla.
- Step 3- Shake vigorously for 5 minutes and place into the freezer for about 3 hours.
Homemade treats are a great way to indulge that sweet tooth while reducing the amounts and types of sugars and preservatives we are ingesting.
