Homemade Fruit Strips

These homemade fruit strips are so much better for you than store bought. Just check the ingredients. Made from corn syrup and not fruit. When you grow your own berries they are even sweeter and cheaper to make. Only requiring a few ingredients make these fruit strips a kids favorite that parents can approve of and even eliminate any added sugars.

Homemade Fruit Strips Ingredients

  • 3 Lbs Fruit (mixed or individual)
  • Brown Sugar (optional)
  • Fresh lemon juice 1 tsp
  • Parchment paper

Instructions

If using fresh fruit simply puree your fruit and add it to a pot on medium to high heat. On a slow simmer to remove moisture from the fruit. Frozen fruit will require a longer cooking process to remove the excess moisture. During the cooking process you want to be constantly stirring your fruit. Adding of sugar is optional and can be done at any time of cooking.

Your fruit will start to lose its water content and get thicker. Once you have a jammy consistency Remove from heat, adding lemon juice and stir in. Allow to cool 4-5 minutes.

In a recessed cookie sheet, lay out your parchment paper and pour your fruit on top. Spreading to an even layer of about 1/4″. The thicker the layer, the longer it will take to dehydrate. As your fruit dries the thickness will reduce.

In a preheated oven set to 170 degrees these will take about 3 hours or more to complete. Thicker fruit will take a longer time to dehydrate.

Once finished your fruit should be a little tacky and not shift if you angle your pan. Remove from oven and allow your fruit to cool. With a pizza cutter, cut into strips. Roll your strips up and store in an airtight container. These homemade fruit strips are a great snack for kids lunches with none of the unnecessary ingredients or sugars.Enjoy!
